A study in The Journal of Infectious Diseases found that patients with blood group Rh have a higher chance of contracting parvovirus (D).

The fifth disease is a parvovirus-based viral illness. Common symptoms like red patches on the cheeks that might extend to the arms and legs most frequently afflict school-aged youngsters. Even adults can contract the disease, but most never exhibit any symptoms.

Between 2015 and 2018, Germany tested more than 160,000 blood donors for the parvovirus. The virus had infected 22 of the blood donors. Rh was the blood type of all affected individuals (D). The likelihood of infection increased over the summer, as the researchers were able to observe. Also at higher risk for the disease are women and those between the ages of 31 and 40.
